Am I the only person who likes this song (Flash Delirium- MGMT)??  The blogosphere generally panned the song as a giant “f*** you” to the less serious fans of MGMT who fell in love with the string of singles from their 2008 debut album, Oracular Spectacular.  MGMT reportedly apologized for picking the song as their first “single,” although they claim the album has no official singles.  I like to think of their upcoming, leaked album “Congratulations,” as them playing what they really want to play and slightly minimizing pressure from their major label to produce ‘hit’ singles.  With this album they focus more on the past than their purported “live fast and die young” lifestyle, as “Congratulations” features some serious psychedelia, like the 12 minute long “Siberian Breaks.”  As well, MGMT explicitly pays tribute to some of their heros, Dan Treacy and Brian Eno, with two songs named after the aforementioned musicians. Despite the lack of a “Time to Pretend,” “Electric Feel” or “Kids,” they haven’t scared me away.  I’m just waiting for their next step, as their sound has yet to distinctly evolve.  Their new experimental attitude hasn’t translated into much creative growth.  Hopefully this album is but a recharge moment in between two highly acclaimed and catchy releases.  Congratulations isn’t not bad, it’s actually quite good, but that doesn’t mean it’s memorable.
